Metal Plate Dentures

A partial denture is designed to fill in the gaps left by one or more missing teeth.

Metal plate dentures.

A metal based denture is one in which a portion of the denture body is made of a substantial metal casting rather than all plastic acrylic resin. Metal dentures are usually only metal based or have metal framework and the false teeth are made from other materials. The use of the metal plate is most typical when it is the upper arch of teeth that are being replaced and where the lower arch has existing natural teeth. Acrylic dentures are the pink colored classic style you see mostly.

Sometimes a metal plate is used for extra strength and reducing the chances of cracks or damage to the denture. As metal is much stronger than plastic we can make it a lot thinner and smaller meaning that your dentures won t feel as bulky as the plastic ones. A third option is a flexible denture base made of nylon. Most denture bases are made of acrylic resin or chrome cobalt metal.

Metal allow uses chrome cobalt as the base instead sometimes with a layer of acrylic on top to provide the right appearance. Since our special metal framework is made by an outside laboratory availability of this partial is about two to three weeks. These frameworks are usually cast from chrome cobalt and may have a longer life span than entirely plastic dentures. Metal based dentures come in two forms.

Problems with regular dentures. It usually clips onto some of your natural teeth via metal clasps which hold it securely in place in your mouth. Standard metal based dentures this comes in direct contact with the gum tissue so it should be made of hypoallergenic bio compatible medical grade alloy. An advantage of using acrylic resin is that it can be dyed to match the patient s gums but metal is less likely to break if the dentures are dropped.

Cast metal partial denture the cast metal partial denture is stronger less bulky and offers a great fit. There are two types of metal based dentures. This partial has a metal framework to which our on site laboratory will attach higher quality denture teeth. Metal alloy dentures dentures can be made of one of two materials acrylic or metal alloy.

Modified metal base denture the metal base is separated from the supporting tissue though the use of either a soft or hard plastic liner. It can easily be unclipped and removed. The difference between metal and plastic is that the plastic ones will be loose and bulky and the metal ones will be better fitting stay in well and be less bulky. The use of new products allow dentists to finally offer something with confidence that patients will like.
